Headteacher Update re January Return

Headteacher Autumn Term (2) Update

Friday 18th December 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are at the end of a very busy term, and I want to take this opportunity to thank our families, my staff and all the wonderful children for all their hard work and creativity in working together so well this term. The Christmas events on Twitter and Google Classroom have been a joy to see and a wonderful way to end the term. Thank you all.!

We all hope that as we move into 2021, life, including school, will hopefully start to be more like what we want it to be! However we do know that this will take time and the Spring Term will continue to see school working differently to keep our school community safe. The priority will always be the safety and happiness of our children and wider school community.

Plans for January 2021

Due to the on-going rising numbers of Covid positive cases across Wales, we have been instructed by Cardiff Council to continue with the on-line learning model from Monday 4th January 2021.  The expectation is that all children will return to school from Monday 11th January at their normal staggered start times as long as the school has enough staff available to open safely.

The teachers will share home learning plans Monday January 4th for the week ahead along with a message from each class teacher. There is an expectation that children will complete this work at home, teachers will respond to any work from Wednesday onwards.

We are aware that free school meals vouchers are in the process of being issued to families in receipt of this benefit for the holiday period and we are anticipating that this benefit will also be issued to you for the first week of the new term. Should you need to contact FSM team the details are:

We do appreciate that there are more changes at such short notice that may cause difficulties for some of you.  However, with the risks to us all from the rapid spread of the virus, it is imperative that transmission rates are lowered as quickly as possible.

Whilst at home it will be really important to try and minimise the spread of the virus in the community and children should be staying at home as much as possible.  They should not be visiting each other’s houses and, if you need to take them out shopping, social distancing, regular and thorough hand washing and mask wearing should be carefully observed.  All of these things will help to keep our children and our community safe.

We will be able to offer a small number of places for children of critical front line workers, NHS, school workers and social care workers as well as for some vulnerable children. If you are part of this workforce and all other child care options for you have been exhausted and you require a place at school please email [email protected] by Monday 4th January before 12.00pm.

School will be in touch with you by Tuesday January 5th am to confirm.  We are intending to offer sessions from 9:00 am till 3:00 pm from Wednesday 6th to Friday 8th January.

School has received many kind and thoughtful messages and this means a great deal. Thank you for your continued support. We remain hopeful that the New Year, 2021, will bring happier times.

Finally we really hope that you all have a peaceful Christmas and that 2021 brings hope and happiness.

Stay safe and well!

Very best wishes,

Miss D E Williams
